- It is designed to provide more uninterrupted light distribution and less light scatter.
Alcon introduced the Clareon PanOptix Pro trifocal IOL, which will be commercially available in the U.S. in May, for patients with cataracts, according to a press release.
The IOL is designed to provide patients with more uninterrupted light distribution across the full visual range through 94% light utilization and a 16% increase in optical image contrast between distance and intermediate vision. This will be achieved with the Enlighten NXT optical technology, delivering “the highest reported light utilization of any trifocal IOL — and the lowest light scatter,” Alcon said in the release.
PanOptix Pro, Alcon’s first presbyopia-correcting IOL available in the U.S. that uses the Clareon AutonoMe preloaded delivery system, offers IOL powers ranging from 6 D to 34 D with 2.17 D intermediate and 3.25 D near add power. The lens is available with blue light and ultraviolet filtering.
“Our team looked at hundreds of design options, ultimately landing on a targeted diffractive refinement that helped us recover 50% of light lost to scatter and reposition it to a beneficial focal point for PanOptix Pro,” Rob Scott, vice president, intraocular devices, R&D, Alcon, said in the release.
