In this issue of JAMA Ophthalmology, Muni and colleagues report on a novel in-office procedure for the repair of acute rhegmatogenous retinal detachments (RRDs), which involves the injection of a viscoelastic agent into the suprachoroidal space to achieve an internal buckling effect. The authors named the procedure suprachoroidal viscopexy (SCVEXY). The authors had previously reported on the use of this procedure in a single patient. This study builds on this previous case to include 6 other cases from a single center and offers a proof of concept for a novel, in-clinic surgical approach that involves neither intraocular gas nor the associated need for specific positioning.
