Bausch + Lomb acquired Elios Vision, including its technology to perform a minimally invasive glaucoma surgery procedure with an excimer laser, according to a press release.
“Our acquisition of Elios Vision demonstrates our ongoing commitment to the rapidly growing number of patients affected by glaucoma,” Anthony Wallace, vice president and general manager, U.S. Surgical, Bausch + Lomb, told Healio. “We believe that in the future Elios technology could help treat a broader range of patients by offering a standardized approach that is implant-free and broadly adoptable by both glaucoma and cataract surgeons.”
The Elios system allows for the treatment of glaucoma in combination with cataract surgery, with MIGS offering a “safe and effective approach” to lower IOP with a faster recovery time, the release said.
Elios Vision previously received a CE mark in Europe for its MIGS technology and was in the process of seeking FDA approval.
