BARCELONA, Spain — In this Healio Video Perspective from the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting, Emilio Torres-Netto, MD, PhD, discusses biomechanical changes produced by the implantation of femto-CAIRS.
Using OCT elastography, Torres-Netto observed differences in the way the cornea reacts to PMMA rings vs. femtosecond laser-assisted corneal allogenic intrastromal ring segments (femto-CAIRS).
“We have the expected topographic effects, but we do not have all those changes in strain profiles as we do with synthetic rings,” he said.
This has implications on future nomograms, outcomes and possibly the long-term stability of the procedure, according to Torres-Netto.
